Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

Independent Contractor

BS, CTRS

Laura was led to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) at a young age. The name alone made its way to her heart! She has always had a creative spirit with the mindset of helping others. She is most excited to help individuals thrive from the comfort of their home, which goes hand in hand with her motto in life: Transforming lives through leisure.

Laura joined the Alliance Music Therapy team in April 2025 as an independent contractor to assist in furthering our team’s reach and expand the populations we provide services for.  Laura received her Bachelor in Science in Recreation, Park, and Leisure Services from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Through her CTRS training, Group Program Planning and the intervention of creative expression are items that stand out the most to her and is a big part of her practice.

Laura has complimentary experiences working in both mental health and physical rehabilitation. She has had the unique experience of being part of the Minnesota Regional Spinal Cord Injury Model System which is a research study that collects and tracks the Quality of Life of new Spinal Cord Injury survivors. While attending college, Therapeutic Recreation aligned with her values of healing people through the use of holistic leisure/recreation interventions.

In her free time, she likes to try new forms of creative expression, long walks along the Mississippi, music concerts, and traveling. Some of her favorite snacks to eat while being out and about in between clients are Cliff Bars, trail mix, and ollipop! Something that many people don't know about Laura, is that English is not her first language.

The therapy sessions for my son with Laura truly are the best time of each week! Art & music are beneficial for everyone and especially for people that struggle with physical and/or emotional issues. I hope we will be able to continue long term with Laura. It is basically the only time my son is distracted enough from his chronic pain to participate in positive chats & laughter! Many thanks!
