Alex brings a tremendous amount of heart, skill, professionalism, and respect to our music therapy team, his clients and families who welcome him into their home each week, and while working with other specialists and team members at facilities.  We look forward to seeing what he can do for you and your loved one through our music therapy services!

Alex joined the Alliance Music Therapy team in November 2017.  Originally from Cedar Falls, Iowa, Alex completed his undergraduate work in Music Therapy at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and subsequently completed a six-month internship with Institute for Therapy through the Arts in Evanston, Illinois.  Alex brings extensive experience in voice and guitar in both his therapy work and performance happenings.  Additionally, he incorporates many styles across various settings and integrates piano, drums, and many other percussion instruments into his music therapy sessions and playing for personal enjoyment.  Recently, he has taught himself the mandolin and ukulele.

Alex's clinical experiences include working with individuals and groups of various ages and abilities, including the following populations:  affect/mood and anxiety disorders, at-risk youth and post-trauma disorders in residential treatment, Angelman Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down's Syndrome, Intellectual-Developmental Disorders, Aphasia, Apraxia, aged care, and post-stroke and surgical rehabilitation.  When opportunities arise, Alex appreciates collaboration with other creative arts therapists and interdisciplinary team members.

Alex is drawn to music because it is a form of expression that he can personally engage with in so many ways.  Music has helped him form some of the best friendships, connections, and moments and still does to this day.  He is inspired to help others overcome what they are facing in a constructive, lasting manner.  Beyond music, he enjoys spending time exploring (preferably with dogs tagging along) and has traveled over a majority of the United States as well as a number of countries in Europe.

Alex has truly restored my faith in people who don’t live Autism, who don’t know what it takes to feel the judgement and handle the routines. Alex has the compassion, empathy, and understanding of Autism and the difficulty families face. “It’s about meeting the child where they are at, not where I think they should be.” Quote from Alex!

I am so glad to have met you!
